Your resume is the first step to sell you out, indeed it is very important. Don’t you hate it when you apply for a position and never hear back from anyone about it?  You wait for a long time and expect a reply, but you never hear from them, even a rejection? School directors look for specific information in your CV, and if that information is missing it’s possible that you might not receive a response on your application. If you've received nothing, it's time to may key changes to your resume to ensure maximum potential for finding a teaching job in China.

If you’re thinking about teaching English in China, there are some key steps that you can take to ensure a potential employer takes a serious look at your resume and increase your chances of  interview.

1:  List your BA Degree, TEFL/TESOL certificate and qualifications at the top

Teaching English in China requires teachers have a full university BA degree to get a proper working visa. If you don’t have a BA, a college degree should be listed as well. TEFL/TESOL certifications are second to list below your education. Many schools in China require at least 60 hours TEFL certification, make this promiment, simple and easy to notice. If you don’t have that kind of certification an Online TEFL is easy to get. Click here to know more details: https://teachingchina.net/tefl

2:  Elaborate on working experience

Working experience is a very important part of applying for a teaching job in China. You should write more details about your working experience and list your responsibilities in Bullet point form only; make sure it is very easy to read and understand and try not to write and essay about your experience, 1 paragraph (6-8 bullet points) is plenty per position. Most employers aren’t interested in seeing every job you’ve ever had listed on your resume, especially, other jobs which don’t have any relation to teaching. Jobs that you’ve held for less than three months are best left off. Previous experience not related to teaching is usually not recommended, it is better to write something about teaching. Even if you’re a graduate student and don’t have any teaching experience we advise you to write something about teaching in China and your teaching dream. Make sure you use key words to focus on your resume.

3: Prepare a lovely photo

Add a smiling, full color and photo in good light is essential, because your employer will want to know what you look like, especially in China. A good photo can give a good impression to the employer and can be the difference between getting a job and not.

4: References at the bottom

A Reference letter is important because it gives the company you are seeking employment with more of a guarantee as to who you are and what you have to offer. It not only summarizes your accomplishments, but it also reflects your personality through the words and experiences you choose to share in it. It is a fair way to make the employer to know you well. Don’t forget to attach your reference letter at the bottom in your resume.

To finish, make sure that your resume is one or two pages in length, uses short descriptive words and lists the skills in line that make you most desirable for the position. Make sure that you have a precise understanding of what the school or company wants and make sure they know that you have what it takes.

Follow all these tips, and you should have a pretty nice ESL resume.
