The film has an iconic character from Chinese folklore, Nezha, and loosely adapts the classic novel Investiture of the Gods. The main character is a magical child born of "the demon realm." Nezha determined to save their bad fate, his parents are with him and say it comes from "the spirit pearl". Nezha can not escape the truth forever, however, and eventually to decide which path to take.
